The male elephant population is controlled by vasectomy in the Pongola game reserve. Pongola is located in the eastern part of South Africa.
Elephants are extremely destructive in the bush, if there are too many for an area they can tip the whole ecological balance of the environment. Not only is it a huge ordeal to cull elephants but when they do they have to wipe out the whole herd due to their mental and psychological well being. Elephants need to be very well-managed in reserves.
